Description: Bozeman bladesmith Maverik Murdock is an up-and-coming maker to watch. This young bladesmith's attention to detail and devotion to the craft is clearly evident in his work. Murdock's knives are inspired by faith and family. His maker's mark shows his initials surrounding a stylized person in prayer.
This Chef's Knife is a perfect choice for the cook that prefers a smaller, more easy to control knife. At 6-1/4 inches, the blade is long enough to get most any task done, yet short enough to be a breeze to control and use. The shorter blade still provides plenty of finger clearance for a rocking chop.
Maverick hand forged the blade from Cru Forge V carbon steel. This steel from Crucible is a vanadium-modified, high-carbon blade steel specifically designed to offer the forgeability of carbon steels such as W1, 1086 or 52100, while providing improved wear resistance in finished blades. The addition of vanadium promotes the formation of hard vanadium carbides in the micro-structure, adding to the abrasive wear resistance of the material compared to plain high carbon steels. It provides a strong, long lasting edge. A mustard patina provides some limited rust resistance and gives the blade an elegant look.
The handle is made from black palm (Astrocaryum standleyanum) wood. An heirloom fit central bronze spacer brings some warm tones into the handle and nicely compliments the bronze tones in the wood. The handle is finished with a satin finished 410 stainless steel bolster. The handle feels equally comfortable whether holding it in a pinch grip or further back on the handle. Like other knives, this knife should not be put in the dishwasher. Because this knife is forged from carbon steels, it will have superior edge holding to stainless steel knives, but will require slightly more care. We recommend using camellia oil to prevent the blade from rusting and the handle from drying out.
Excellent work throughout!
