Description: Up and coming maker, Jordan Buckley has tremendous attention to detail. Jordan, who is 19 years old (as of the spring of 2023) is a Washington native. His passion for bladesmithing is clear throughout all his work. His work and aesthetic has tremendous refinement despite only having been making knives for 5 years. Perhaps it is no surprise that he aspires to become a mastersmith by 25!
Paring knives are a must-have for every kitchen. You can think of it as the mini version of the chef's knife because, like the chef's knife, the paring knife is quite versatile. The paring knife gets its name from its main function—removing or “paring” away things like peels or pits from fruits and vegetables. It’s ideal for peeling, coring, trimming, decorating, and other detail work. Its small size gives you complete control over the tip and edge of the blade. Generally, you'll use this knife in your hand rather than against a cutting board, though paring knives can also be used for chopping small foods, such as garlic cloves or ginger.
The dramatic blade is hand forged damascus. Jordan combined multiple bars into a complex, high contrast pattern. 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels ensure a keen, long lasting edge.
The Olivewood (Olea spp.) handle is inspired by traditional Japanese handles. The octagonal design is ambidextrous. It feels very nimble and easy to control. A black paper Micarta ferrule seals the front of the handle from absorbing moisture. Like other knives, this paring knife should not go in the dishwasher.
Jordan is clearly a maker to watch and this is an exceptional example of his exquisite work.
