Description: Washington knifemaker, Andrea Lisch is both a bladesmith and a blacksmith. She has worked alongside her husband, Mastersmith David Lisch in both these roles for many years. Her fit and finish is exceptional and her designs are well thought out. Andrea received her Journeyman smith credentials at Blade Show 2023.
A chef's knife is the general purpose knife in the kitchen. From slicing tomatoes to chopping onions, this knife will get the task done perfectly. This 7" chef's knife is long enough to prepare most anything, yet short enough to be comfortable and easy to maneuver. It is sure to be a kitchen favorite.
Andrea began forging this integral chef's knife beginning with 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. The feather damascus pattern is immediately captivating and draws attention from a distance. By forging closely to shape, she ensures optimal grain structure for a keen, long lasting edge. The blade is beautifully thin with a nice distal taper for clean, perfect cuts. A convex grind assists food to release from the blade while slicing. This is among the first knives that Andrea made after she passed her journeyman smith test. Andrea's touchmark is on the left side of the blade. Her new "A. Lisch JS" mark is on the right side. Because the blade is forged from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and natural wood handle.
The handle is presentation grade spalted curly mango wood. It is nicely contoured for a secure, comfortable grip - swelling at the palm, moving into a slimmer waist, and swelling again at the end of the handle. Alternating black fiber and nickel silver spacers assist the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes in the kitchen. The bolster is fully integral to the blade, with the damascus pattern moving seamlessly from bolster to blade. This technique has superior structural integrity and requires a particularly talented smith. The bolster is carved to encourage a comfortable pinch grip.
Exceptional work throughout!
