Description: Champagne is meant to be savored - and occasionally sabered. Back to the days of Napoleon, many victories were celebrated by decapitating bottles of bubbly with their swords. The saber was the weapon of choice back then and the whole ritual of celebration has evolved today and is still used to open bottles of champagne. Everyone should have the opportunity -- AND the occasion -- to saber a champagne bottle. Over the centuries, sabering has developed into a ritual the makes the opening of champagne even more festive.
This elegant champagne saber is made by Laguiole Traidition in France. The non-sharpened stainless steel blade is matched with red stamina wood handles and stainless steel fittings. The filework and bee are classic to the Laguiole style.
The saber is slid along the bottle body towards the neck at the meeting point of the bottle's lip and the veritcal seam. The force of the blade that strikes the lipis sufficient to break the glass and separate the neck from the bottle collar which, together with the cap, is fired away by the force of the gas contained in the wine. If applied correctly, the technique is effective with any sparkling wine.
Made in France.
