Description: This large bowie knife was created by Bill Burke back in 2005, while he was a journeyman smith. It has been in a single private collection and is in new condition.
Bill Burke makes knives that are as high performance as knives can get. Each knife is pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment follows the formulas developed by Bill Burke and Ed Fowler, Bill's teacher, and creates some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere.
This massive camp knife features an 11 1/4" blade with a strong, thick, spine. At the time, this was the largest camp knife that Bill had made. Since then, he has only made one or two that rival it. The weight and balance in the hand are exceptional -- resulting in a feeling similar to a Kukri. This is a knife that has to be swung!
The differential heat treatment adds to the effect, creating resilience at the spine with an edge that won't quit. The handle is formed from natural sheep horn, which does not become slippery when wet and is amazingly durable. The spacer is created by taking two sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward, producing a very pleasing effect. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
