Description: Push daggers have a mystique to them that is rarely found in other knives -- a combination of weapon and art -- a gentleman gambler's last assurance in a bygone year.
Fred Ott's Ironwood Push Dagger is spectacular. The warm tones of the sculpted ironwood nicely compliment the clay heat treated blade with a slight accent of brass. This push dagger has the feel of a piece passed down through generations.
The 1084 carbon steel blade was forged to shape and was given a differential heat treatment using a traditional Japanese clay method. The resulting heat treatment line (hamon) shows a transition from the ultra-hard cutting edge and the softer, supportive spine. The result is a knife that holds up well under use. The spine has been meticulously fileworked in a vine pattern. The ironwood handle has been nicely sculpted for a sure hand-hold. As pleasing to the hand as to the eye. Exceptional work throughout!
