Description: Ricardo Vilar is one of the makers that has brought the Brazilian knife market to the forefront of American collectors' minds. Vilar was one of the primary organizers of the Brazilian cutlery seminar with North American Mastersmith Jerry Fisk, which was held in Ricardo's workshop in 2001. In 2005, he became the first South American journeyman smith in the American Bladesmith Society. His work is extremely well thought through, with dramatic shapes and detailed damascus. This Gent's Bowie is an exceptional example of his work.
The clip point blade was forged to shape from Ricardo's ladder pattern damascus. By combining 1095 and 15N20 carbon steels, Ricardo has ensured a keen, long lasted edge. The pattern is highly controlled with virtually no distortion, showing his mastery in the forge.
The oval guard and ferrule are also formed from damascus with a filewworked stainless steel spacer. The Brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) handle has been sculpted for a very comfortable feel in the hand. An exquisite sense of balance is created by distal tapering the blade. This is a knife you won't want to put down.
The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled, hand stitched leather sheath.
As you would expect, the fit and finish is excellent.
