Description: Michael Rader, who was honored as a journeyman smith June 2006, is best known for creating dramatic swords and daggers with woodwork that is beyond compare. Recently, he put his attention to creating knives for chefs. The results are truly exceptional.
Like his hunting knives, this ten-inch slicing knife was pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. Many knife collectors and chefs feel that 52100 is among the best, if not the best, steel for edge holding. The edge is extremely keen and will stay that way for a very long time.
The blade has been antiqued using Wayne Goddard's "mustard" protective finish. This attractive finish helps prevent rust and makes the knife easy to maintain. The bolster is integral, a common technique in production knives, but very rare in handmade knives due to the difficulty of implementation. The handle is formed from amboyna and bubinga woods with box elder burl accents. The wood has been stabilized so that it will hold up well under the rigorous demands of either a home or commercial kitchen. The knife has perfect balance and feels exceptionally smooth and comfortable in the hand.
