Description: This Shikari is a dramatic new knife from Fred Ott. In it, he combines Indian and Japanese techniques and styles, resulting in an immediately captivating knife. A shikari is a big game hunter that developed in India. It was frequently carried by native hunting guides.
The 1086M carbon steel blade was forged to shape and clay hardened using a traditional Japanese technique. The resulting heat treatment line, known as a hamon, shows the separation between the soft, supportive spine, and the ultra-hard, long lasting edge. A copper habaki (blade guard) protects the blade from scratches when stored in the wooden sheath (saya). The habaki has been textured and antiqued. The handle has been formed from reindeer antler and provides a comfortable, sure grip. On the left side, the antler has a natural check that was stabilized prior to making the handle. Wrought iron fittings surround the antler. The knife is accompanied by a wooden sheath carved from flame walnut. A textured and antiqued throat nicely compliments the habaki. Exceptional fit and finish throughout!
