Description: Fred Ott's work is inspirational -- there simply is no other word to describe it. This antiqued hunter shows off his tremendous sense of design and skill in implementation. This knife was made by Fred in the Spring of 2010. It has been in a single private collection and has been meticulously cared for. It has never been used to cut. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
The antiqued blade was hand forged from Cru Forge V carbon steel. This steel from Crucible is a vanadium-modified, high-carbon blade steel specifically designed to offer the forgeability of carbon steels such as W1, 1086 or 52100, while providing improved wear resistance in finished blades. The addition of vanadium promotes the formation of hard vanadium carbides in the micro-structure, adding to the abrasive wear resistance of the material compared to plain high carbon steels. The blade was forged to shape. A distal taper creates an optimal balance in the hand.
The handle is formed from a single piece of exhibition grade red bush willow wood. This wood has a dramatic, unique grain pattern. The handle is hand carved and is engaging and comfortable to hold. An oval wrought iron guard completes the presentation. An exceptional addition to any collection and comfortable for use in the field!
