Description: This is among Fred Ott's master works to date. The name was inspired by the Cache la Poudre river, which travels from peaks of Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park along the Continental Divide. This scenic river corridor has been an important travel route since prehistoric times. The name means "Hiding Place of Powder." According to legend, French fur trappers in the 1820's were caught by a tremendous snowstorm. To lighten their load, they buried large amounts of gunpowder (poudre) in a hiding place (cache) along the banks of the river. Today, the river corridor is rich in paddling, hiking, and hunting areas.
The 8 3/4 inch long blade is a complex ladder pattern forged from 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. Approaching the tip, the spine arches upward into the clip point.
The curly maple handle has been nicely carved and is exceptionally comfortable to grasp. Fine silver inlay meticulously displays twisted vines. Decorative pin work completes the inlay. The handle is surrounded by antiqued, textured nickel silver fittings. Accompanied by tooled leather sheath. Tremendous fit and finish throughout!
