Description: Showing the influence of Japanese swords on his work, after forging the blade from 1086M carbon steel, Fred clay hardened the blade. This technique results in a soft, supportive spine, with a hard edge -- a perfect combination of sharpness and brawn. The transition between hard and soft steel is the repetitive, gently undulating pattern known in Japan as a gunome hamon.
The handle is formed from a single piece of desert ironwood, incorporating warm and dark tones. A cape buffalo horn spacer separates the ironwood handle from the antiqued bronze guard. The guard has been textured, both for fit and appearance. The knife is accompanied by a basswood sheath wrapped in cape buffalo leather. Excellent fit and finish throughout with a great feel in the hand.
