Description: Aaron Wilburn, who was honored as a ABS Journeyman Smith in June of 2009, creates knives that mean business and this hunting knife is a great example of his work.
Like knives by Mastersmiths Bill Burke and Ed Fowler, this knife was pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment follows the formula developed by Fowler and Burke -- a technique that has proven to create some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere. The drop point blade has strong differential heat treatment lines. The blade was forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. Many makers and collectors feel that this is the best steel available anywhere for use as a knife blade.
The handle is formed from a solid section of richly toned rosewood with dark veining. The handle swells to fit the palm and the shape and heft feel so natural in the hand, you’ll have a hard time putting it down. Aaron has worked with the natural tones of the raw material, bringing the handle to a luster and setting it off to perfection with alternating nickel silver and red fiber spacers. These also assist the handle in adjusting to temperature and humidity changes. A serious field knife for the avid hunter or collector.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
