Description: Bill Burke, who was honored as a Master Smith June 2008, is best known for creating some of the best hunting knives that can be found anywhere. The Japanese-influenced art knife shows off his skills at their best.
The blade is forged from Bill's own firestorm damascus, a pattern he has been refining for years. The complex pattern immediately draws your eyes - and continues to hold attention upon closer examination. Six bars of the damascus, comprised of 1084 and 15N20 carbon steels, were combined to form the blade.
The habiki (blade guard is formed from mokume gane that Bill forged from copper and brass. This moves into the oval guard (tsuba) which he forged from carbon steels, bronzed, and heat blued. The handle is formed from a single piece of ancient walrus ivory featuring soft tones of streaked café latte and slate with deep sienna accents. The knife has perfect balance and feels exceptional in the hand.
Among my favorite knives that Mastersmith Bill Burke has made to date!
