Description: Fred Ott's work is exceptional -- showing off his tremendous sense of design and skill in implementation. This mountain knife is among my favorite of his knives to date. A Nordic influence is clearly evident in the design of this impressive piece.
The blade is formed from a pattern that Fred calls Rock and Ripple. It is a pattern that is immediately captivating. By mixing bold and fine patterns, Fred is able to grab attention from a distance and hold it upon closer examination. 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels ensure a long lasting edge. A distal taper and a central clip create an optimal balance. The stacked handle combines ebony with curly maple wood. The guard and spacer are carved wrought iron. Fine silver inlay meticulously displays a floral scene. Differential dying creates vivid leaves and petals.
Fred constructed this knife with take down construction. This allows the handle to be fully disassembled using a central wooden pin. Not only does this show tremendous skill, but it makes it far easier to repair and clean the knife.
The knife is accompanied by a matching wood and leather sheath.
