Description: This exceptional hunter is the handiwork of bladesmith Fred Ott in the summer of 2013. It has been in a single private collection and has been meticulously cared for. It has never been used to cut. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday.
The damascus blade was hand forged from carbon steels for a long lasting edge. 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels are combined into a bold twist pattern. A distal taper ensures an optimal balance.
The handle combines dark walnut burl with Steller's sea cow bone. Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas) is an extinct, large sirenian mammal formerly found near the Asiatic coast of the Bering Sea. It was discovered in the Commander Islands in 1741 by the German naturalist Georg Steller, who was traveling with the explorer Vitus Bering. Through an unfortunate combination of being slow, large, and good tasting, by 1768, less than 30 years after it had been discovered, Steller's sea cow was extinct.
A satin finished nickel silver guard seamlessly separates blade and handle. A hand stitched and molded brown leather sheath accompanies this piece. An amazing addition to any collection or a prized knife for the outdoorsman that wants something unique.
