Description: Aaron Wilburn was honored as a Mastersmith in 2013, also earning the BR Hugh’s award for "Best Knife Submitted by a New Mastersmith". Creating the quillion dagger for the ABS test is particularly daunting with its many unique difficulties and complications. Aaron forged the blade of this exquisite dagger just prior to becoming a Mastersmith and just completed the knife in the spring of 2014.
The 10-1/4 inch dagger blade was forged to shape using his own ladder pattern damascus. 340 layers of steel are combined to created the gently undulating pattern. The blade was hollow ground using an 8 inch wheel, for clean, well centered grind lines. It is perfectly created, befitting a master.
Wrought iron fittings surround the fluted bloodwood handle. The wrought iron is flame colored, revealing the damascene texture inherent to the wrought material. A damascus spacer is surrounded by nickel silver trim. The stabilized bloodwood handle is perfectly fluted and holds the twisted pure silver wire.
Exceptional work throughout!
