Description: Journeyman Smith Mardi Meshejian has an artistic vision that is exceptionally dramatic. This art knife was inspired by Japanese tanto, but is also quintessentially Mardi. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made and by all appearances it is in brand new, unused condition.
The blade was forged to shape from Mardi's 300 layer damascus, beginning with 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels. The spine is carved and textured to create the look of waves moving across the spine.
A habaki (blade guard is formed from antiqued copper and moves into the textured and differentially anodized oval guard. The handle is truly exceptional. The right side shows the polished outer bark of the ancient ivory. The left side reveals the inner tapioca has been carved.
Exceptional work throughout!
