Description: This dramatic camp knife is an amazing example of Mastersmith Aaron Wilburn's work at its best. It clearly shows the influence of knives by Mastersmiths Ed Fowler and Bill Burke, with the recurved, deep bellied blade shape, yet displays Aaron's artistic vision as well.
The long, drop point blade was differentially heat treated, bringing the edge to critical temperature then oil quenching three times. Many thermal cycles and normalizing steps assure consistent grain structure. The blade was then tempered at 400 degrees twice, for exceptional durability. A cryogenic treatment between tempers enhances the edge holding ability. 52100 is considered by many makers and users to be among the best, if not the best, steel used in modern knives. The grinds show an elegant heat treatment line. The flats feature a forge finish.
The sheep horn handle is nicely shaped and fits comfortably in the hand. When wet, sheep horn does not become slippery, and it is amazingly durable. This rare black sheep horn is extremely captivating and combines the black horn with blond sections. The spacer is created by taking two sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward, producing a very pleasing effect. Black sheep horn of this quality is particularly rare. The handle feels so natural in the hand, you’ll have a hard time putting it down. A serious field knife for the avid hunter or collector.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
