Description: Mastersmith Jay Hendrickson's knives have always inspired me. There is a gentlemanly elegance to his work that matches his personality. Silver vines are inlaid into presentation grade curly maple. The antiqued wood gives an heirloom quality to this exceptional Jay Hendrickson hunter.
Jay began by forging the A2 semi-stainless steel blade closely to shape. The appleseed grind is a hallmark of Jay's work. A clear differential heat treatment line travels along the blade, showing the transition between the soft, supportive spine and the keen, hard edge. Jay believes strongly in the hand forging process and it clearly shows in his work. By forging the blade to shape, Jay ensures optimal edge retention. Both the blade and tang are distal tapered for a perfect balance.
The handle is formed from presentation grade curly maple. Scrolls of fine silver and a German silver escutcheon are meticulously inlaid into each side of the maple. An end section of side cut maple adds a nice accent. The shaping of the wood feels great in hand -- this is a knife you won't want to put down!
The knife is accompanied by a leather sheath with a kudu hide front cover.
Exceptional work throughout!
