Description: Fred Ott's work is inspirational -- there simply is no other word to describe it. This damascus dagger shows off his tremendous sense of design and skill in implementation.
The double edged blade is hand forged from 1080 and 15N20 carbon steels for excellent edge retention. The high contrast pattern is immediately captivating both from up close and from afar. The blade has been distal tapered for an optimal balance in the hand.
The handle is sculpted from red mallee burl. Red mallee is a dense Australian hardwood from Australia’s gold fields. Tight interlocked grain and rich red colors combine with fine figure patterns to make a great burl wood choice that rivals amboyna burl. Inspired by Japanese swords, the handle is set with a bamboo mekugi (sword pin). Creating a 'take-down' knife with such precision shows exceptional Fred's skill! A nickel silver guard completes the handle. The guard is finely textured for a secure grip and will prevent your hand from slipping over the blade.
This is a dagger that is sure to be at home in any collection! It includes a beautiful sheath made from goat skin wrapped over basswood. Excellent fit and finish throughout!
