Description: Bladesmith Kevin Slattery hails from Australia. I was very excited when Mastersmith Bill Burk introduced me to his work.
The 2-1/2 inch blade was forged closely to shape from W2 carbon steel. Kevin brought in a traditional Japanese heat treating technique called honyaki whereby the spine is coated in clay prior to quenching. The result is a more resilient spine with a keen, long lasting cutting edge. The undulating line travelling along the blade is called a hamon. This technique has exceptional results and shows Kevin's skills at their best. The distal tapered blade is ground thin for precise detail work while caping game, The spine is rounded for a comfortable, secure grip.
The handle is formed from spalted myrtle burl wood (Umbellularia californica). The beautifully figured wood is immediately captivating with its convoluted grain. A bronze guard is perfectly fit to blade and handle. A black fiber spacer assists the handle to adjust to temperature and humidity changes.
The knife is accompanied by a pouch style leather sheath.
Exceptional work throughout!
