Description: JD van Deventer creates unique knives of the highest degree of craftsmanship and performance. He took up knife making in 2005 and became a member of the Knifemaker’s Guild of Southern Africa by 2007. He works in a one man shop and even builds most of his machines himself! He is clearly a maker to keep an eye on!
The Gold Mini was designed by Jared Van Otterloo (JVO). This smaller version of the Gold Standard has a 2.7 inch blade -- easily capable of getting any task done -- yet the compact size makes it tremendously carry friendly. The blade is perfectly centered with silky smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the discreet and ambidextrous flipper toggle. It uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
The raised clip point blade is N690 stainless steel, created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. By differentially finishing the blade, JD has emphasized his clean grind lines.
The scales are black G10 and feature curly maple burl inlays. It is particularly rare to find maple burl that also has a curled figure. The wood is dyed gray and shows off stunning golden figure that perfectly matches the theme of the knife. The transition is perfect with no gaps in the inlay. The scales surround bronze anodized titanium liners and a G10 backbar. The titanium hardware is anodized bronze to match the liners. The bronze anodized pocket clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent fit and finish throughout!
