Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kikuo Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. His father runs a small workshop in Seki, grinding blades for production knife makers. Kikuo joined his father's business at 15 years old and learned the grinding techniques from his father. Over the years, Kikuo's skill at the grinder has become legendary.
The Utsugi Tanto is handmade and shows Kikuo's his skill at its best. It is Kikuo's homage to the traditional Japanese tanto. It does not fall short of its namesake. The expertly balanced blade is ground from Super Gold 2 powdered metallurgical san mai damascus steel. This premium steel provides the best edge in Kikuo's knives. The slender blade features Kikuo's high performance Hamaguri (convex) grind and finishes in a kassaki tip.
A nicely rounded and contoured green Micarta grip completes this refined workhorse. A lanyard hole is set at the end of the handle should you want to add additional retention. The Utsugi Tanto is a tremendous modern interpretation of the traditional Japanese side arm.
Accompanied by a hand fitted Kydex sheath with DOTS belt clip.
Exceptional work throughout!
