Description: Jack Connan is a South African razor maker that has grabbed my attention. His love for knives started at a very young age since he grew up on a game farm in the South African bush. Using a knife for whittling, fixing and making things, or skinning an animal was a daily occurrence. In his early teens, Connan started spending time with Ben Musgrave (a South African legend and gunsmith) learning how to work on and make firearms. Musgrave instilled in Jack the notion of doing things properly. At 19, Connan started studying to become a goldsmith, a job he would continue for 15 years before discovering the art of knife making. In 2009. Jack made his first knife and by 2011, he was accepted into the Knifemakers Guild of Southern Africa, an honor to any South knifemaker.
This exceptional straight razor was handmade by Jack. It is an exquisite piece. The 5.75 inch, 6/8" tall blade will work exceptionally. Connan has tremendous skill at the grinder and this full hollow ground razor is perfectly ground. This blade was made from 52100 carbon steel and features a gun blued finish. Many makers and users feel that 52100 carbon steel is among the highest performing steels used to make a blade. This will provide an exceptionally keen, long lasting edge.
Handle scales are made from dyed and stabilized birdseye maple. A thin white G-10 liner ensures strength and durability. The combination is captivating and will hold up nicely to regular use.
