Description: Salem Straub is a full time bladesmith and blacksmith living in Washington State. He has a tremendous amount of skill at the forge and a great sense of design. This damascus dagger from Salem shows his significant talent as both a bladesmith and a blacksmith. This dagger won Best of Show and Best Fighter of Show at the 2019 Oregon Knife Collectors Association Show. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made in 2019. By all appearances it is in brand new, unused condition and Salem could have made it yesterday!
The large dagger ground blade is forged from 1080 and 15n20 carbon steels and will have exceptional edge retention. A central bar of mosaic tiled explosion damascus is surrounded by a twist damascus pattern at the cutting edge. The results are absolutely stunning and some of the most impressive forging I have ever encountered. The blade has a beautiful symmetric hollow grind with a ridge that runs right down the center of the mosaic tiles.
The handle is formed from walnut wood which was meticulously fluted. Mild steel twisted wire was then wrapped around the walnut to resemble chainmail. The gently sculpted and fluted handle is comfortable and provides a solid grip. The forged blackened steel guard complements the handle nicely and brings excellent balance into the dagger. A matching mosaic damascus pommel finishes the handle. Showing his attention to detail, Salem built this dagger with take-down construction.
Exceptional work throughout on this masterpiece. This one-of-a-kind dagger would make any royal knight envious!
